The road Donald Trump can’t go down
There are sometimes so many news stories in our ever-changing news cycle that it can be challenging to cover every single one. But this story is something we NEED to cover because it’s about two men — one a hero, one a traitor. But first, let’s talk about the rally.
This past Saturday, hundreds turned out in the state of Tennessee to get in some “good trouble” and rally for a cause important to the hearts of everyone there. This rally was about a state bill. And this bill is something many in Tennessee are rebelling against.
This is a proposal to rename one part of a street there. The current name is Rep. John Lewis Way. (hero.) The bill suggests a portion of the street be changed and renamed after Donald Trump (traitor.) So this little story is about a hero and a traitor. It is an important story. And if you live in Tennessee and have not heard about this — now you have.
Poetry was read at this protest. People came together to support a hero and denounce a traitor. “Never ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble.” These words came from Albert Thompkins, who attends Fisk University, where John Lewis went.
Many protesters said they felt as if this was an attempt to erase black history. And they DO NOT want to see any part of the street named for traitor Trump:
“SAVE JOHN LEWIS WAY!”
“HANDS OFF NASHVILLE!”
These words appeared in signs held aloft by the activists.
From one of the poems read at the protest: “You would give a man in a place he isn’t wanted an honor he hasn’t earned.” Lewis was a civil rights leader, a hero, and an inspiration. Trump is a traitor, an insurrectionist, and an idiot. This is a story everyone needs to know about. We stand united with these activists.
