The Republican who described herself as “Trump with heels” just lost her seat

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

2023 is an off-off-year as far as elections go, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t elections on the local and state level that are extremely pivotal when it comes to passing Democratic policies and more importantly, impact voter turnout in 2024.

The nonpartisan Supreme Court race in Wisconsin this spring was one very significant election for this reason – one in which the candidate picked by Donald Trump lost by a landslide. Already, we’re seeing a considerable overperformance by Democratic candidates in special elections – win or lose – on a scale that we last saw in 2018, before they took 41 seats in the House.

On Tuesday, Virginia had its legislative primaries – and Amanda Chase, the state senator who once described herself as “Trump with heels” was defeated by a candidate who could make himself sound more moderate. Considering the former guy backed Chase fairly strongly in the past and the party is vying for his affection, this is a potential sign that the party is rather fed up with Trump – and they’re not likely to warm up to him come November. In fact, Democrats who fought to ban masks in schools and described themselves as pro-life suffered sizable defeats as well. Let’s support Virginia Democrats in the Senate and build their majority to fight back against Gov. Youngkin’s far-right agenda.
