The Republican clown car just got a little smaller
Mike Pence has thrown his hat in the ring to run for President. Christie is expected to announce as early as Tuesday of this week. And stunningly, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has opted not to make a run at all.
I’d actually like to have a word about that. Sununu was the one I was always the MOST worried about. Why? Because he can string two sentences together. In the Republican world, that’s no small accomplishment.
Sununu is pro-choice. That alone would likely have kept him from advancing in the primary, and he probably knows it. But Sununu was also the least radical of all the possible candidates. It tells us a lot.. It tells us that moderate Republicans can no longer win.
There will likely be others entering the race. There is still talk that John Bolton might run. That Liz Cheney might run. Who knows who will decide to join the dark zone? Anyone’s possible. It’s also important to remember that Pence likely has no chance, and neither does Christie.
I still believe we have yet to meet the person who will eventually be the nominee. Sununu had been on my mind. Had he gotten the nomination, he’d have been someone to worry about a bit more than the others. But he is not running. So, the actual nominee, in my humble opinion has not revealed themselves yet. We need to be ready for when they do.
