The pollsters and pundits can keep talking about Kamala Harris losing, but we’re not blind. She was in Atlanta (again) on Saturday, and her event was held at the Lakewood Amphitheatre, the same place where two friends and I saw Matchbox Twenty last summer. The amphitheater is a partially covered venue with lawn seating, and Saturday was a beautiful day for this event. Shortly after the event began, a video appeared on Facebook of all the people waiting to get in. People aren’t going out of their way to see Kamala Harris in person if they’re not planning to vote for her. That would make absolutely no sense, especially in Atlanta traffic. When we went to see Matchbox Twenty, the traffic was so backed up that we got out and walked the last mile. This is not a place to go if you’re unwilling to withstand the trouble of getting in it.

Harris also visited Detroit Saturday, with singer/rapper Lizzo, who greeted her as “My President.” Lizzo made her feelings known about having a female president: “It’s about damn time.” In Atlanta, Harris was joined by Usher, who is headlining three days of concerts here. Trump also campaigned Saturday, even after his campaign team said he’s “exhausted.” There’s a lot more wrong with Trump than exhaustion. Democrats have pulled out the “big guns” for these last few days. Former President Bill Clinton was seen stumping with Tim Walz, while former President Obama headed to Nevada. Looking to the opposition, Donald Trump has apparently run out of steam. If he tires this easily, how can he run a country like the U.S.? He can’t, and he doesn’t have any intention of doing anything anyway. According to Sunday reports, Trump is back out on the campaign trail, doing what he does best: lying. According to USA Today, Trump visited a Pennsylvania McDonald’s and claimed again that Kamala Harris lied about working there while in college. What was the point in that? He still refuses to speak in detail about his plans or “concepts of plans,” as the case may be.

Regardless of what the pundits say, excitement for Kamala Harris is continuing. Newsweek reported that she continues to gain ground with women voters over 50. Not only does Newsweek report that she has made a significant gain over President Biden, but she now enjoys a larger margin than Democrats in the last two elections. While women over 50 are likely not as concerned as younger women with the abortion issue, we are concerned with the humanity Harris brings to the table, including in her talks about abortion. None of us want to think about a young woman bleeding out in a parking lot because doctors are afraid to treat her. Making this even better news for Harris, AARP Executive VP Nancy LeaMond told Newsweek: “Older women voters are a big group that is very motivated to vote.” They are also right in line with Harris’s programs, including prescription drugs, housing, social security, and Medicare. These women obviously know who’s going to make those things happen, and it’s not Donald Trump.
