The real reason Matt Gaetz hasn’t been arrested yet

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Back in June, federal prosecutors let it be known to ABC News that they were looking to indict Matt Gaetz sometime in July. But here we are on July 30th, and unless the Feds arrest Gaetz by tomorrow, July will have come and gone. So what happened?

Over the past few weeks there has only been one piece of news relating to the Matt Gaetz case, and it was a big one. Gaetz’s associate Joel Greenberg, who has pleaded guilty to many of the same crimes that Gaetz is being investigated for, sought and received a delay in his sentencing hearing. The only reason for this: Greenberg expects that his cooperation is going to result in some major busts that haven’t happened yet, and prosecutors agree.

So at this point the most logical explanation for the delay in Gaetz’s arrest is that Greenberg gave them so much to work with, it’s taken them time to go back and sort through all of it, in order to build an even more comprehensive case against Gaetz and thus help guarantee a conviction.

By default, federal prosecutors always lean toward building the most comprehensive case possible, as opposed to building the quickest case possible. That’s not going to be any different just because Matt Gaetz is a public figure. There is no reason to expect that Gaetz’s arrest isn’t still on track.

As for the doomsday prognostications, those are easy to shoot down. If Greenberg had turned out to be a bust as a witness, prosecutors wouldn’t have agreed to delay his sentencing hearing. And if the Gaetz case were falling apart, prosecutors would likely be tamping down expectations through the media. Given that prosecutors haven’t even bothered to revise their originally stated July timeframe, it’s logical to expect that Gaetz’s arrest will come not much after the end of July.
