The real reason Jack Smith just met with Rudy Giuliani
Jack Smith reportedly interviewed Rudy Giuliani about the election overthrow plot sometime in the past few weeks, per CNN. So what does this tell us? Well, quite a bit.
For starters, given his history and how these things tend to work, Giuliani himself is likely the one who tipped off the media about the meeting. And he’s not reliable. That said, if the meeting didn’t happen, Smith’s office would have told CNN this instead of no-commenting it.
So the meeting happened. But how? Criminal targets can’t be compelled to testify against themselves. That said, Giuliani is precisely the kind of idiot who would voluntarily agree to meet with prosecutors in order to try to convince them of his election conspiracy theories.
Why would Jack Smith or his team take such a meeting with Giuliani? It’s a gift. Giuliani would have spent the entire meeting voluntarily confessing to one crime after another.
The other scenario is that the interview happened because Giuliani has cut a cooperating plea deal or immunity deal. But in such case no one involved would be telling the media about it right now, and we wouldn’t be reading about it today.
The real story here is that Jack Smith’s 1/6 probe appears to be at that endstage where he’s invited the top targets to come defend themselves if they’d like. All that’s really left to do is indict.
Last week Giuliani posted a tweet fantasizing about the DOJ charging President Biden with RICO and seizing his assets. I figured it meant he’d seen some sign that this was about to happen to Trump. Now we know why. Even Rudy knows it’s all over for him and Trump both.
