The real reason Donald Trump’s Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly ended up resigning today
When Donald Trump’s Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly was caught on tape telling the crew of the USS Roosevelt that Captain Crozier was “too naive or too stupid” to remain in command, it set off a firestorm. There were widespread calls for him to resign. Sure enough, it happened just now.
This is the latest reminder that there’s a consistent pattern to which of Donald Trump’s terrible people are forced to resign and which ones survive their scandals. If the scandal becomes ugly enough, Trump selfishly decides to force that person out, in the hope of making the bad headlines go away.
In this instance, it was simply a matter of making enough noise about Thomas Modly, and sure enough he’s now gone. It’s worth keeping this in mind the next time we see an opportunity to get one of Donald Trump’s terrible people ousted. The fatalists will always insist that any given person “will never resign no matter what.” When we fight back, we often prove them wrong.
