The real reason Bill Barr is doing what he’s doing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

As expected, the mainstream media (left, right, and center) keeps giving airtime to Bill Barr so he can promote his new book. Remember all those mainstream media articles that were sourced to a “person familiar with Barr’s thinking” back when he was in office? Spoiler alert: that was Barr himself, feeding things to the media, and now the media is returning the favor by giving him airtime.

Of course some interviewers are pretending to be hard on Barr, hitting him with “tough” questions about the Mueller Report, only to then let him get away with lying about how he originally lied about the Mueller Report.

The fun part is watching mainstream media pundits pretend to be confused about why Barr is taking certain anti-Trump positions while still taking certain pro-Trump positions. Spoiler alert: this is about money. Washed up political figures like Barr publish books in order to cash in with one last payday before disappearing from public life. A bestselling book can be worth millions of dollars. So Barr presumably just decided to take whatever combination of political positions that he thought would sell the most copies of his book during the current political climate.

Of course the mainstream media pundits all know this, because they also like to periodically cash in with book deals that are aimed at pandering to the current climate. They’re not going to outright accuse Bill Barr of writing this book and taking these specific positions solely for the money, because then they might give away that they like to do the same thing.

As a consumer of political news, the best thing you can do is to stop buying political books that seem to have been crafted specifically to pander to audiences. Moreover, whenever you see interviewers giving someone like Bill Barr free airtime to advertise his book, make sure you let those interviewers and their TV networks know that you don’t appreciate it. These antics won’t stop until you collectively put a stop to them.
