The real enemy
Ukraine. What thoughts does the word Ukraine conjure in your mind? For me, I think of courage. I think of greatness. I think of the bright and mighty force of love that blazes from the hearts and minds of the Ukrainian people.
But this is not what comes to mind for many in the GOP. For Marjorie Taylor Greene, it seems she thinks of bears. “You see, Ukraine just kept poking the bear, and poking the bear, which is Russia, and Russia invaded,” she exclaimed, blaming Ukraine for the murder of its own people.
And for Rep. Madison Cawthorn, apparently, the word “thug” comes to mind. It must be because this is exactly what he labeled President Zelenskyy. He also called Ukraine corrupt. And then there is human failure, JD Vance, running to be Ohio’s next Senator. His Ukrainian thoughts appear to conjure up not giving a shit — as he proudly proclaimed he does not care what happens in Ukraine.
There are so many more I could name. But the point is — the GOP is not in lockstep with the American people on this issue.
Only pretty malevolent people would say and do the things mentioned above. Only people who lack morality and conscience would speak those words.
As the battle of a madman goes on, it is essential we continue to show Ukraine our support. But we must go further than that. We must always be courageous and call out the words of some Republicans.
We need to do this, not just to win but to show our support for Ukraine and slap back at the cretins who would dare to be on the side of Putin.
Anyone who supports Putin, in my humble opinion, is an enemy. I do not use the word “enemy” lightly. I realize assolini used those words all the time. I don’t. I wouldn’t say I like to use them at all, but I feel I must in this situation. So let us reward the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Let’s keep speaking the truth to power. And let’s not let one statement of hate by the GOP fly by us without calling it out.
