The opening night of the Democratic National Convention is a reminder of what we can be

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The 2020 Democratic National Convention kicked off tonight, and while it’s taking place virtually, the power behind the message and the moment is very real. The opening of the convention, complete with a parade of faces that looked like America, was enough to evoke a feeling of patriotism that’s been frankly hard to come by in Donald Trump’s anti-American era.

The speakers thus far have included everyone from far-left progressives, to former Trump voters, all of whom are now uniting in support of Joe Biden. To give you an idea of the breadth of Biden’s support, Bernie Sanders and John Kasich are both speaking in support of him tonight – and Sanders and Kasich rarely agree on much of anything.

This Democratic National Convention is a reminder of what we’re capable of. We can still be America. We can still come together. We can still feel patriotism. We can still have something to feel proud about. We haven’t even gotten to the biggest-name speakers yet, and this already feels like how things should feel.
