The New York criminal case against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization just hit the big time
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office has a grand jury in the process of criminally indicting Donald Trump. It has his tax returns. It’s met with Michael Cohen at least eight times. It’s hired a trial prosecutor with a specialty in white collar crimes. Trump will clearly be indicted. Everyone is impatient that it hasn’t happened yet. But the key here isn’t haste; it’s making the criminal case so bulletproof that it’ll guarantee a conviction.
That’s why it’s such a big deal that the New York Attorney General’s office has announced to CNN this evening that they’ve upgraded their own investigation into Donald Trump and the Trump Organization from a civil one to a criminal one. This means the New York Attorney General and the Manhattan District Attorney are now both going to end up bringing criminal indictments against Trump and the Trump Organization.
Donald Trump, his family, and his crime business are going to be taken down by the thoroughness of the criminal cases against them, the sheer number of criminal charges against them, and the variety of those charges. That way, even if a trial jury doesn’t see fit to indict on all of the charges, it’ll indict on enough charges to send the Trumps away for a long time.
It’s a sign of serious criminal jeopardy when the state itself is running its own criminal investigation, and not just the local District Attorney’s office. The criminal case against Donald Trump just reached the big time. His odds of being indicted, which were already close to 100%, just basically became 100%. And the criminal charges against him are going to be extraordinary.
