The media is at it again

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The media is doing it again. One thing I’ve noticed lately is the amplification of non-stories — or stories that should not be getting anywhere NEAR the amount of press they do get. Let’s break this down. I’ll start with some examples of exactly what I’m talking about.

Unemployment claims have fallen, and the economy is vaulting past expectations. How many stories have you read about this compared to stories about gas prices?

President Biden has implemented new rules on the ban of “Ghost Guns.” How many stories have you heard on that compared to stories about “bad news for the Democrats” in the Midterms?

States like Kentucky and Florida are all but banning abortions outright. How many stories have you heard on that compared to how low Biden’s poll numbers are?

I think that’s enough examples.

We have lots of work to do, and we’re not just battling Republicans. The media plays an essential role in all this, and so far, they’re flopping. I want to stress — not ALL media pundits. But many are, if anything, worse than ever before. And I want to be clear about something. Even if we WIN IT ALL in the midterms – it’s possible the media — at least some of them — will continue in their false ways.

I’d give it a day or two before some pivoted to “Bad news for the Democrats for 2024.” It’s manipulative, it’s unfair, but that’s what we’re dealing with. So, here are a few things we can do. Email or tweet at whatever pundit you catch doing this. Don’t say anything disrespectful. Simply tell them you’ve turned them off. And tell them why. And then turn them off.

I just did this yesterday as I witnessed a gleeful Chuck Todd start in on his “Democrats are doing badly” narrative. My television happily went into off mode. Look, it’s tough. I know that. Activism itself is challenging. But we can’t give up. Right now, we’re struggling through lots of thorns to find the luminous roses. But they’re there. And the more feedback we can give members of the media, the better our chances of lowering the number of untruths that we’re exposed to daily.
