The media finally admits what has been clear for six months: the DOJ is investigating Donald Trump

Earlier this evening, Attorney General Merrick Garland appeared on NBC News and once again reiterated that the DOJ is taking its Trump January 6th probe all the way to the top, and that nothing will get in the way of it. If that wasn’t a strong enough hint, the Washington Post is now reporting that, according to its sources, the DOJ is indeed “investigating Trump’s actions in Jan. 6 criminal probe.”

So there you have it. The WaPo piece reveals that the DOJ has spent “hours” asking grand jury witnesses about election overthrow meetings that were led by Donald Trump. In other words, Trump is indeed the focus of this DOJ probe. Of course that’s been fairly clear ever since it was reported back in January that the DOJ had a grand jury subpoenaing people around Trump, and it’s been quite clear ever since the DOJ began carrying out search and seizure warrants against Trump co-conspirators Eastman and Clark.

Also, notably, it turns out the DOJ has had Mark Meadows’ phone records since at least April. There are multiple ways to obtain phone records. It could be that the DOJ subpoenaed them from the carrier at that time. It could also mean that Meadows cut a cooperating plea deal at that time. Either way, this makes 100% clear what we’ve been saying all along, which is that Meadows has either flipped or is a target of this DOJ investigation.

Based just on publicly available information reported by major news outlets, it’s been pretty obvious for the past six months that the DOJ was investigating Donald Trump. The real story here may be that, with the DOJ’s ongoing Trump probe now spilling over into public view, the media can no longer chase ratings by pretending the DOJ isn’t investigating Trump, so now it’s finally going ahead and admitting in exact words that the DOJ is investigating Trump.

We’re now going to hear a lot of buzz about how recent media pressure supposedly pushed Merrick Garland and the DOJ into finally “doing something.” But if you actually read the details of today’s Washington Post reporting, along with yesterday’s ABC News reporting about Pence’s aides testifying, and the other details that have been reported over the past six months, it’s obvious the DOJ has been investigating Trump for quite some time.
