The lizard people

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Battling conspiracy theories these days sometimes seems an impossible task. Every day it seems like a new conspiracy theory has reared its ugly head. And I see many people talking about how this country had changed so much so fast that there was a time when we were conspiracy free.

It’s that last statement I’d like to talk about. Our country has always been prone to conspiracies and that includes as they relate to politics. And we’ve believed in them for a lot longer than the Trump years. One of the most insane is the lzard people.

The theory of the lizard people is no less bizarre than much of what we’ve heard from QAnon. It’s just that it was a long time ago. People forget. Let’s take a look at the lizard people.

The theory revolved around shape-shifting lizards who, it was believed, could assume human form and frequently did. The ultimate goal of the lizard people was to rule America.

Some of the most ardent of the lizard people believers thought George W Bush and the Clintons were all lizard people masquerading as humans. Now you might be thinking: oh, but only a tiny amount of people could possibly have believed this. Wrong.

The public policy polling group did a poll about the lizard people in the year 2013. And to the shock of many, it was found that at least 4 percent of this country were solid believers, with 7 percent unsure.

That would mean over 10 million people in this country believed in the lizard people. There is much more to the lizard people conspiracy than I have space to write. But it’s been around a long time — way longer than Trump, and Maga. And it is still around. Reportedly many members of QAnon embrace the lizard people conspiracy. That figures.

It seems as if there is a part of this country that is just ripe for conspiracies. Conspiracies are all over the place, and the rise of social media certainly doesn’t help. But this brand of crazed thinking isn’t new. And until we can figure out a way to deal with the strange, the crazy, the bizarro — it is likely we Ain’t seen nothing yet.
