The latest sign yet that House Republicans are in catastrophic disarray

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $3760 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,

House Republicans only voted to impeach Biden DHS Secretary Alexander Mayorkas on Tuesday because they know they’re too weak to lay a glove on Biden himself. They’re going after Mayorkas solely to generate headlines about how they’re “doing something,” so I recommend not giving them headlines about the topic at all. Meanwhile, a very different story points to the catastrophic disarray that House Republicans are truly in.

We’ve seen a large number of House Republicans announcing their retirement of late. Most of them are too young to be seriously looking at retirement age. And many of them are in the kinds of “safe” far right House districts where they’re in no danger of losing to a Democratic challenger. So why are they fleeing? They’ve seemingly just had enough of their own party’s ongoing idiocy. Except now one of them hasn’t.

In a bizarre story, Victoria Spartz – who announced last year that she was retiring at the end of her term – flip flopped today and announced that she’s seeking reelection after all. It’s not clear why she’s changed her mind.

If this were happening in isolation, you could write it off as perhaps being solely about Spartz. But given that this is happening within the context of so many other curious House Republican retirements, even as House Republicans keep going through Speakers of the House like water, and the overall instability of the RNC and the Republican Party, it’s just the latest sign that the Republicans are in catastrophic disarray.
