The House Republican rats are eating each other

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

On Wednesday, House Republican George Santos publicly threatened to take down several of his fellow House Republicans with him if he’s expelled โ€“ and that somehow ended up being a mere sideshow in the scheme of things.

The rest of the House Republicans โ€“ the ones who aren’t (yet) criminally indicted โ€“ decided that they would rather have no Speaker of the House at all than come together and elect Steve Scalise. This has got to make Scalise feel like the biggest fool in the room. Or maybe not, given that the only remaining official candidate, Jim Jordan, got even fewer votes on Wednesday than Scalise did.

This all comes even as House Republicans have failed to come together and expel George Santos, who’s out on bail awaiting criminal trial and is openly threatening to destroy them. They’re just that weak. They’re allowing themselves to be held hostage by a guy who’s about to go from the House to the big house.

In any case, these House Republicans are doing exactly what you’d expect a bunch of greedy, unhinged, selfish crooks would do if you put them collectively in charge without a real leader. The rats are eating each other.
