The GOP’s real long term plan

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Breaking news! That expression is taking on new meaning with the fracturing of the Republican party under right wing extremism. The GOP continues to push incredibly unpopular and insane dogma and policies that result in recurring election losses. But could it all just be an intentional reset of long-term Republican plans?

On the one hand, the GOP center cannot hold as they struggle to make sense of their losing policies with voters in the middle. Just three examples, the right-wing SCOTUS ruled states’ rights on guns, after having ruled the 2nd Amendment gives individuals a federal right to bear arms. The SCOTUS ruled on Dobbs ending Roe v Wade by giving control back to states, then agreed to hear the case for Mifepristone to be federally banned. Republicans are now campaigning on a national abortion ban at conception, while twisting themselves in knots to find a way to make IVF legal.

On the other hand, perhaps this is all part of a Republican long-term plan. If you follow the trajectory of the GOP from Nixon and Reagan to now, this push even further to the extreme right sets them up for a starting point 10 to 20 years from now. There’s little chance that their Project 2025 will happen, but they believe they’ll have gained ground when the traditional “pendulum swing” goes back to the right for a Project 2035 or Project 2045.

The GOP knows it’s unlikely Trump will ever be anywhere near the White House again, so they are setting the party up for the next big drive further right. Leonard Leo, who was responsible for the current extreme right-wing SCOTUS, is tied to 40 groups involved with Project 2025. House Speaker Mike Johnson is tied to The Seven Mountains Mandate Movement who believe Republicans should have dominion over all aspects of society. Just sayin’.

Back to reality, the Republican party is breaking, while Democrats are holding our country together. Prescription Mifepristone is now available at the largest U.S. pharmacy chains, CVS and Walgreens, and birth control is available over the counter. After the unhinged GOP rebuttal to Biden’s SOTU by Alabama Senator Katie Britt, who lied to vilify Biden and immigrants, Biden received endorsements from Latino, AAPI, and Black voting organizations.

The bottom line is, we can never let the Republican party back in power. On November 5, 2024, we need a blue tsunami to re-elect President Biden, hold the Senate, and retake the House. Then we can reform the Supreme Court, restore voting rights, women’s rights, gun safety and more. The GOP is breaking. Democrats are the only way to keep America together.
