The GOP’s “loyalty pledge” is backfiring already

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There is something bothering the Republican party, and it’s threatening to splinter the not-so-grand old party. This something is only now starting to be reported on. But it’s a big “something.” It’s a gigantic rock weighing Republican Presidential candidates down and turning various members of the GOP against each other. It is the “loyalty pledge.”

The higher-ups in the Republican party are demanding any presidential candidate sign this absurd “loyalty pledge.” This pledge demands that any Republican who is not successful in getting the presidential nomination MUST agree to support whoever does.

This little pledge isn’t sitting well with some of the nominees. Chris Christie doesn’t like it. And Asa Hutchinson publicly complained about it and got shut down by his own party. The Republican committee is standing firm and says there will be absolutely no changes to this pledge. And that presents a problem.

Why? Because in the periphery vision of EVERY Republican sits a whirling Donald Trump image. The man’s going on trial for violating the Espionage Act! He might be a convicted criminal when the presidential race rolls around. Who on earth would want to pledge to support a criminal?

Not Hutchinson nor Christie. And Trump will NEVER pledge to support any nominee who is not him. So what is the Republican committee doing here? Screwing up as usual.

In fact, one Republican advisor, Richard Walters actually came out and said any Republican refusing to sign this should reconsider whether they should even be running! Ah — it’s comforting to know the cult is alive and well and destroying itself. Who’d have thought it?

So yes, the GOP is now weighed down by the Rock of Gibraltar. The squabbling is coming, fast and ever so furious, and this “pledge” — or whatever the heck it is, seems to be destroying the party from within. Isn’t it a beautiful thing?
