Since Donald Trump announced Mathew Gaetz as his pick for Attorney General, the gossip has been coming hard and unending, faster than a Payton Place episode. There do not appear to be many people who approve of this nomination. Even Republicans seemed shell-shocked as they desperately ran for their cars on Capitol Hill to avoid interested reporters’ questioning.

In the meantime, there are whispers that the damning ethics report might just be leaked at any moment. Perhaps, by the time you read this, it may have already been. Isn’t it just like Trump to do something so utterly incompetent that even his most sycophantic loyalists cannot defend it?

Matt’s arch-enemy, Kevin McCarthy, has said confidently that Gaetz will never be confirmed. “Everyone knows that,” the former House speaker insists. Meanwhile, the calls for the release of the ethics report into the sexual misconduct claims are getting louder — and louder — and louder. A concerned Susan Collins says she is very concerned about this concerning development.

“Worst pick in American history.” Many are saying this, showing that Donald Trump’s judgement is about as awful as anything else about the man (and I use the term “man” loosely.) So — what will happen?

It could go many ways, but this writer doubts Gaetz will ever get confirmed. I think the high-haired hombre is too awful a candidate, even for Republicans, which is saying a lot because Republicans do seem to have the ability to dismiss most of Donald Trump’s terrible, horrible, very bad deeds.

There can be no doubt that Gaetz resigned from Congress because he knew he’d be expelled anyway. This ethics report is his minefield, and had it been released on Friday, his chances of actually staying on the hill would have exploded. I am certain of that.

The bad news for Gaetz is that the report will likely be released anyway. Now, this report will not say: “We find Matt Gaetz is a man of exemplary character and this whole thing was a big mistake.”

So when this report makes its presence known, I predict it will not only spell doom for Gaetz and his pipe dream of being AG but also kill his career. And Gaetz will have his Messiah — Donald John Trump — to thank for all of it.
