The Fulton County District Attorney who’s in the process of indicting Donald Trump just called in the FBI
Fulton County Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis has made it pretty clear that she’s in the process of criminally indicting Donald Trump for his attempt at overthrowing the 2020 election results in her state. Last night Trump used a rare public appearance to call for massive [and presumably violent] protests in the specific cities where he’s in the process of being indicted.
Now Willis is calling in the FBI for security help in response to Trump’s threats, according to NBC News. This is notable for a few reasons. First, it makes clear that Willis has no intention of backing down, and in fact every intention of indicting and arresting Trump. If she were expecting to end up not indicting Trump, she wouldn’t be calling in reinforcements for protection once that news arrives.
Second, this development suggests that – perhaps – Willis’ indictment of Trump will be coming sooner than expected. We’ve seen various legal pundits insist that, even though Willis has already met with Trump’s attorneys and empaneled a special grand jury to speed up her case, it’ll still take several months. If so, why is Willis calling in reinforcements now?
Finally, this is a good reminder of how you deal with bullies like Donald Trump. He’s (weakly but still criminally) calling for violent attacks against the prosecutors who are taking him down? You don’t back down one bit. You don’t fret. You don’t lament. You don’t sit paralyzed in fear. Instead you just find a way to flex your muscles bigger than Trump’s side ever could, and you continue fighting and winning.
