The fall of Vladimir Putin

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For centuries there have been powerful dynasties, ruthless Monarchies, corrupt kings — and an insurrectionist President. Tales of their falls have been written. They have been written by ancient scribes and philosophers. They have been written on historical scrolls, on papyrus, parchment, often with bejeweled pens and brilliant minds tracing back the tales of history.

And even today, historians are busy writing. And — typing. For now, we have the internet to fill these remarkable and cruel stories with. So many have written about the fall of Donald Trump. I myself have written about it, often using the symbolism of Icarus. And I think Icarus is a good example of these evil peoples’ falls from grace.

Hubris is what caused Icarus to fly too close to the sun, melting his delicate wings and sending him hurtling downward as Hubris enveloped him. Nearly ALL the falls of dictators, of kings, of a certain former President — can be traced to Hubris.

And Putin is no different. We are all witnesses right now to history. Even as I write this, great minds worldwide have their eyes steadily fastened on Putin — observing his fall.

Yes, the fall has started. It started the day he made that fateful and deadly decision to throw away common sense and invade Ukraine. Hubris can get to anyone if they’re careless. And for people like Putin, they’re particularly primed for Hubris. This is because of their delusions of grandeur.

Their minds are often-crazed long before they perform their deadly swan song. But they always have a choice. They always have a chance to make a last grasp at sanity to unring the bell that started the violence. But there again is hubris. Hubris is usually like a vice. Once one has let it in, it cannot leave. People are often at its mercy. It’s no different for Putin.

When will it end? We’ve no way of knowing. But HOW will it end? We know the answer to that. Putin will fail. He will fail because of Hubris. And he will join the list of failed actors, destined to be written about and pondered for centuries. This is because Putin, for all his tough talk, is no different than the vast amount of failed leaders who came before him and did the all-to-familiar fall into hubris.
