The Extreme Court is at it again
Factions. In the wonderful dystopian book series, “Divergent,” people on Earth lived in one of five different factions. Those factions, dear readers, were called. Dauntless. Amity. Candor. Abnegation. Erudite.
All the factions worked together to care for and provide for their people. Until, as inevitably happens with factions, discord showed its ugly head. We are watching this story play itself out on the extreme court. Yes,. The court is split into factions. Allow me, if you will, to describe these different factions to you and talk about who resides in what faction.
Faction one — Clarence Thomas and Sammy Alito. This is the faction that waits. It waits for Donald Trump to tell it what to do. It exists merely to serve the whims of Donald Trump, no other reason. It is a corrupt faction filled with guilty faces and indifferent attitudes. And now, with the extreme court’s decision the other day, I think it is safe to say we can add Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh to this faction. So — four. Four little members of this particular faction whose motivations are as apparent to us as they could be.
Faction Number Two: These are the Justices of honor. Honor be thy name, Justice Jackson, Justice Kagan, and Justice Sotomayor. These are the Justices whose rulings are fair, who are honorable people who do not let “the stench of mendacity” get anywhere near them. They are righteous.
Faction Number Three. This is the most interesting faction and the two justices in THIS particular faction can do good -or bad, as each case maybe.
They are Justice Roberts and Justice Barrett. These two were the deciding votes in letting Donald Trump’s sentencing proceed. It’s fascinating that Barrett SEEMS to be becoming a swing vote. And if you don’t believe me,just look at Maga, who are, like putrid bees busily labeling Barrett a traitor. Such predictable insects MAGA are!
Roberts? He is unfathomable. He is unknowable. He is as mercurial as a midnight thunderstorm, and nobody can know exactly what he thinks at any given moment.
These two — Barrett and Roberts — are the swing voters. And just like in political elections, these two will ultimately have a strong say in upcoming decisions. It will be interesting, watching these two in the upcoming months and years, fascinating even. But these three factions must coexist.
Can it be done? It has worked so far. But time passes and things do change. One would imagine that the heads of faction one, Thomas and Alito, are likely NOT happy with the two members of faction three right now. A little tear has formed on the extreme justice wall. Will that tear turn into a giant ripping away as the factions go to war with each other? We will have to see.
