The double digit fight of our lives
There are now ninety-nine days until Election Day. Many states have lengthy early voting periods, which means that the first votes in the 2020 election will be cast far fewer than ninety-nine days from now. The past four years have been a nonstop battle for the soul of the nation – but this next double digit number of days will be the fight of our lives.
Make no mistake: Donald Trump is also in the fight of his life. If he doesn’t win reelection, he’ll quickly be dismantled by criminal and civil cases, and he’ll very likely spend the rest of his life penniless in prison. Trump is behind by a double digit margin in the polls. And while the polls aren’t always accurate, suffice it to say that if Trump could switch places with Joe Biden in the standings, he’d do it in a heartbeat – which is the surest sign that Trump is the one who’s currently in a deep hole.
If we keep working hard on things like voter registration and voter turnout, Joe Biden will win by such a big margin that no amount of cheating, posturing, or whining on the part of Donald Trump will make a difference. The tricky part is that we have to put in this final ninety-nine days of work while Trump is negligently and psychotically causing the country to crumble around us. That’s merely a reminder that our work is more important than ever.
