The DOJ just confirmed it’s targeting the same people the January 6th Committee is targeting

Weeks after having initially requested them, the DOJ is now demanding the January 6th Committee’s closed door transcripts, saying prosecutions will be held up by any further delay, according to Politico. This is actually good news. It means the DOJ really is aggressively looking to prosecute all these clowns. And yes, the committee will turn over the transcripts.

The committee presumably wanted to hang onto its transcripts until the public hearings are done, so nothing could leak in advance. That’s fair. If this held up the DOJ’s progress for a few weeks, in the midst of an eighteen month DOJ investigation, so be it. Not a big deal.

For those asking why the DOJ doesn’t just “do its job” – nothing is that simplistic. Several people who testified to the January 6th Committee are criminal targets who can refuse to testify against themselves to the DOJ. But the DOJ can use their committee testimony against them.

The fact that the DOJ wants all these transcripts, and is now loudly demanding the transcripts, means that the DOJ is looking to indict all these clowns. It’s unabashedly good news.

It’s not great that the DOJ and January 6th Committee are getting in each other’s way a little bit. But again, the DOJ’s probe being held up by a few weeks just isn’t a big deal. And once the public hearings end, the closed door transcripts will surely be given to the DOJ.
