The parrot subclass of the knuckle-dragging cretinous MAGA cultists are fond of glassy-eyed repetitions of the mantra that Donald Trump is “obviously” innocent and that the charges against him are spurious. That claim arrives fully formed and begging an obvious question that no one seems to consider. To wit, if a former president of the United States is so easily and so provably innocent, and so clearly and so nefariously being railroaded, where are all the top-flight lawyers who ought to be positively climbing over each other to take the case?

After all, if the inerrant principle of “following the money” can tell us anything, it should be able to tell us who will easily and ultimately stand to gain monetarily from all this indictment business. It will tell us who benefits.

Cui bono? Pro bono! Lawyers from one end of the country to the other ought to be lining up to take the case for nothing. All lawyers great and small, all attorneys wise and wonderful would want this case, from Ivy League to ambulance chaser. To defend an “obviously” innocent president in court — and win — would be the greatest coup of juris-publicity in shyster history.

Why no takers? Why must Trump settle for, ahem, the likes of Joe Tacopina? Because top-flight lawyers know what the drooling MAGA cretins don’t know and what the cynical MAGA politicians pretend not to know. That defendant Donald John Trump is as guilty as proverbial sin.

You see, what the MAGA crowd won’t say (or admit) out loud — because they either don’t know it or hope you don’t — is that the decision to indict Donald Trump wasn’t concocted by a bunch of “radical left” Democrats conspiring to bring Trump down. No, it was made by 23 men and women examining the evidence. And the evidence was so compelling, so damning, so convincing, that those twelve men and women took the unprecedented decision to indict a former president of the United States.

So next time some red hat-wearing mallet head tells you Donald Trump is a martyr to underhanded leftwing forces, tell them no he isn’t. Tell them he has been weighed by the same due process enshrined in the Constitution and found wanting. Twenty-three men and women made the historic decision to put him on trial based on the evidence. And another jury of 12 men and women will ultimately decide whether or not he is guilty. And, as ever, ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, comrades and friends, stay safe.
