The cooperating witnesses no one is talking about
Over the past several months, major news outlets have quietly reported that multiple Oath Keepers and Proud Boys leaders have cut cooperating plea deals with the DOJ. These deals then quickly faded from public discussion. But they’re the kinds of deals that help take Trump world down.
For instance, Roger Stone’s Oath Keeper driver reportedly cut a cooperation deal several months ago. He wouldn’t have just flipped on the other Oath Keepers. If you’re doing a cooperation deal, it’s with the intention of getting as much leniency as possible, which means you’re flipping on everyone. So he surely also flipped on Stone, Alex Jones and anyone else he dealt with in Trump world leading up to January 6th.
But while the DOJ will presumably leak a deal like this to the media in order to scare others in that same orbit into also flipping, it’s not going to keep leaking ongoing details about that deal except as strategically warranted. So such deals fade from the headlines.
And because no one wants to be the talking head on MSNBC or Twitter who has to keep saying “the DOJ cut this crucial plea deal months ago that’s surely resulted in other moves behind the scenes but we know nothing about it,” many talking heads instead just end up pretending such deals never happened.
So we keep hearing ongoing political analysis about the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys leaders who haven’t flipped, because they’re making publicly visible court filings, and other things that are available to be reported on. But we’re hearing almost no talk about the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys who have flipped – Even though the ones who have flipped are, frankly, the only relevant ones at this point.
If a loser like Stewart Rhodes wants to spend the rest of his miserable life rotting in prison for his imaginary cause, who cares? That’ll be the end of his relevance.
