The blowback against Joe Manchin just exploded
Senator Joe Manchin is facing some blowback, and it isn’t pretty. The West Virginia Senator has turned off one very big group — and that is the United Mine Workers of America. They are America’s biggest coal mining union, and they’re a bit peeved at Manchin these days.
The reason is that Manchin went on Fox to say he was a no on Biden’s Build Back Better Bill. The union wants that bill to become law.
Per CNN, “We are disappointed that the bill will not pass. We urge Senator Manchin to revisit his opposition to this legislation and work with his colleagues to pass something that will help keep coal minors working and have a meaningful impact on our members, their families, and their communities.”
Ouch! This does not surprise me at all because if you’ve seen polling out of West Virginia, you’d see that West Virginians want BBB no matter how much Fox might wish it otherwise. In fact, most people in this country want it. And I still believe we will get the bill passed.
Think of Manchin as a bit of an overgrown child who wants his ego stroked. In time, he will come around. He isn’t stupid, and he knows how much good this legislation would do for his state and for the country in general.
And we need to keep up with (polite) calls to his office and emails. If we do that, Manchin will come around. He just needs a bit of our activism to help him get there.
