The 2024 Republican primary race just took a nasty turn
The whole Republican primary is starting to feel surreal. We’ve got blabbering candidates who say nothing of importance, we’ve got Mr. Pudding (DeSantis), whose approval numbers are falling quicker than a meteorite, and we’ve got offers of fighting in cages. That last one is new.
The invite comes from candidate Chris Christie, and yes, he has invited Donald Trump to fight him. Sometimes, these articles write themselves. “I’ll fight Donald Trump anywhere he wants,” Christie thundered. “In any arena, he wants — whether it’s on a debate stage or in the Octagon.”
Christie made those statements to Piers Morgan, who appeared delighted. “Come on,” Christie said. “Guy is 78 years old. I’d kick his ass.” One thing one can always say about Christie, he’s not shy. And Trump, of course, is a fan of this type of sport. I seriously doubt Trump will take him up on this. Most bullies like Trump are, at heart, cowards. And honestly, I think Christie is just trying to needle Donald Trump.
If that is what he’s doing, it’s working. Trump can’t stand Christie, he constantly complains about him, but Christie is here to stay, and it appears his sole purpose is to annoy the heck out of Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Christie is taking money like crazy. Apparently, some rich contributors have had second thoughts about DeSantis and are willing to gamble on Christie. And Christie is also making his first trip to South Carolina, where he plans to host a Town Hall there.
August 23 is the first Republican debate, so we’ll know soon enough if Trump plans to show up. And I hope he does. Nothing would make me happier than to see the traitor get verbally pummeled on stage.
