The 2024 House majority is still in play for the Democrats

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

As inexplicable and profoundly ugly as the 2024 election results have ended up being, there is still one possible silver lining. The House majority is still in play. The thing is, we may not know the results for a bit.

For all the insane surprises in this hideous and suspicious election, it looks like the House majority will indeed come down to the five races in suburban districts in California, as expected. I’m way past trying to put odds on any of it. We don’t even yet know how many of those five California races we’d need to win, because there are still a small handful of other uncalled races in other states.

I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up too high at this dark time. But there is a realistic chance that the Democrats could indeed win the 2024 House majority. This would allow the Democrats to block any legislation that Trump wants to pass, to launch House committee hearings into all of his scandals, and even tie him up in impeachment.

Of course California takes forever to produce a winner in the closest of races, because mail in ballots merely need to be postmarked by election day, and then still need to be counted once they finally arrive. Like I said, I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes too high about anything right now. But we definitely need to keep an eye on the House results in California in the coming days and weeks. There’s a lot riding on it.
