The 2020 Republican National Convention is the worst thing I’ve ever watched

How low were my expectations for the 2020 Republican National Convention? I seriously considered getting drunk beforehand, not to ease the pain of watching it, but so I’d be dimwitted enough to understand it. But as is so often the case whenever Donald Trump is involved, tonight’s RNC somehow managed to be even worse than I could have imagined.

The proceedings opened with mostly dead actor Jon Voight babbling incoherently – and then it all went downhill from there. The first formal speaker was conspiracy theorist lunatic Charlie Kirk, who was presumably only booked because Charlie Manson wasn’t available. Then came a woman whose primary goal in life is to demonize teachers. Then came Matt Gaetz; no punchline needed, he is the punchline.

Somewhere in there, one of the Republican National Convention speakers criticized the Democratic National Convention for having used a celebrity actor like Eva Longoria, with seemingly no awareness of the fact that the RNC had just opened with celebrity actor Jon Voight. The whole thing is just that stupid. At one point MSNBC had to break away from its convention coverage and bring in a doctor just to correct all the coronavirus lies that were being told. It was that bad.

What really stands out here isn’t the dishonesty or psychotic derangement; that part was expected. What stands out is the stunningly low production value, the total lack of coherence, and the incompetent amateurishness of it all. This isn’t a political convention. It’s a 3:00am informercial for a self-lobotomy kit.
