THAT’S NOT A TRANSCRIPT
When Donald Trump promised yesterday that he would release a transcript of his phone call with the president of Ukraine, just about no one believed he would release an honest transcript. After all, this is the guy who recently altered a hurricane map with a Sharpie, and whose Attorney General flat out lied about what was in the Mueller report. Now the Trump regime has indeed released the transcript, and… it’s not a transcript.
This “transcript” is damning beyond words. Donald Trump specifically asked the president of Ukraine to launch an investigation into an imaginary Joe Biden scandal, after having cut off financial aid to Ukraine the week before. Trump is going to prison for this. The thing is, This is NOT EVEN A TRANSCRIPT. As numerous observers have quickly noted, the bottom of the document carries this warning:
CAUTION: A Memorandum of a Telephone Conversation.· (TELCON) is not a verbatim transcript of a discussion. The text in this document records the notes and recollections of Situation Room Duty “Officers and-NSC policy staff assigned t_o listen.and memorialize the conversation in written form as the conversation takes place. A numper of factors can affect ‘the accuracy of the record, including poor telecommunications connections and variations in accent and/or interpretation.
This summary released by the Trump regime this morning isn’t just bad, it’s ‘Donald Trump and his people are all going to prison forever’ bad. If the Trump regime is willing to voluntarily give us something this incriminating, just how much uglier is the real truth? Stay tuned.
