That was fast: the Supreme Court has responded to Jack Smith’s Trump filing already
Earlier today Special Counsel Jack Smith asked the Supreme Court to swiftly rule on Donald Trump’s claim that he has “presidential immunity.” This would keep Trump from being able to try to delay things later by filing appeals on the matter.
Now the Supreme Court has responded to Jack Smith’s filing already. The Supreme Court hasn’t decided whether to take up the case. But it has set a deadline of next week for Donald Trump to file a response. The Supreme Court will then decide whether to hold a hearing on the question of Trump’s immunity claim.
Jack Smith wins either way. Either the Supreme Court swiftly rules in Jack Smith’s favor and it’s smooth sailing until the trial date, or the Supreme Court declines to get involved and hands authority to the U.S. Court of Appeals which will rule in Jack Smith’s favor. There is realistically no scenario where this Supreme Court, which has consistently refused to stick its neck out for Trump, will suddenly decide to go down with the Trump ship now.
So here we go. Again, keep in mind that Jack Smith will win this Supreme Court battle. He knows what he’s doing. He’s seen the pattern in which the Supreme Court has continually refused to help Trump with his post-2020 antics, and he’s taking advantage o it.
