That eerie silence just got louder
There’s an old saying about how silence can be deafening. It makes no sense on the surface, of course. But an unexpected or untimely silence can end up speaking really loudly. We know that we’re weeks, days, or hours from Robert Mueller and Donald Trump both making big endgame moves. That’s why today has been so perplexing.
We know why Mueller has been silent this weekend. In one sense he’s always silent. Even when he does “speak” it’s through things like court filings or indictments, and those only tend to happen on weekdays, when court is in session. But why is Donald Trump so silent right now? His weekend Twitter meltdowns are hit and miss, but he hasn’t thrown a fit since Tuesday. Yes, he’s been at the G20 summit, and yes, President Bush just passed away. But in the past, those kinds of things haven’t stopped him from erupting online.
In fact Donald Trump was remarkably silent throughout the G20. From the looks of it, Trump seems to have lost the support of Putin at the worst possible time, and other world leaders are treating him like he’s a proverbial dead man walking. Perhaps even the ever-delusional Trump has figured out that it’s truly over for him. After all, the last thing we saw was him prematurely walking off the G20 stage, and muttering “Get me out of here.”
Still, what’s with the silence? Has Donald Trump finally lost his will to keep fighting? Has he run out of gas physically? Has he decided it’s over for him? Will he explode as per usual tomorrow morning? We don’t know. But considering how close we are to the endgame on both sides, the combined silence tonight from Trump and Mueller is surreal – and that silence keeps getting louder.
