That didn’t take long

Donald Trump lost $83.3 million and was (once again) legally branded a rapist, so there’s no way to characterize his second E. Jean Carroll trial as anything other than a disaster for him. But the trial did have one potential silver lining for him. When the final few days of the trial pulled him off the “campaign” trial, it proved that all he had to do was shut up for a minute and the headlines about his senility would start to subside.

To that end, when his handlers used a flimsy excuse to cancel his scheduled appearance on Friday at an Arizona political rally, it felt like perhaps they were trying to keep him quiet a little longer. After all, each additional day that he doesn’t give a speech puts him one day further removed from the media furor about his senility.

The problem for Trump is that he still has to do at least the bare minimum in order to continue masquerading as a political candidate. And that meant appearing in public in Nevada yesterday, ahead of the state’s bizarre Republican primary-and-caucus mess.

During his Nevada speech, Trump proceeded to make up new words and phrases like “Februareth” and “peace through earth” and “dwet” even while sounding more broken and senile than ever. Trump was on the defensive about how much he’s been sweating during his recent public appearances. Trump falsely accused Biden of giving three minute long speeches, a clear sign that Trump is worried that his own lack of stamina is showing.

While Trump didn’t have any senile moments that were quite as media-friendly as confusing Nikki Haley for Nancy Pelosi, he did continue his pattern of coming off like he’s a complete goner. It didn’t take long for him to go right back to being senile in public. Now we wait to see if the media continues to give the same kind of attention to Trump’s senility this upcoming week that it did last week. This story isn’t going away.
