Thanks Matt Gaetz!
Whether it was a dimwitted (and seemingly backfiring) attempt at saving himself from expulsion, or just a general desire to cause miscreant trouble, Matt Gaetz has left the United States without a Speaker of the House. Now a key U.S. ally, Israel, is under attack. This isn’t a great thing for the country. But it seems likely to work out in President Biden’s favor.
In a situation like this, the U.S. would typically vote on a military aid package for its ally. It’s not strictly a question of whether Israel needs the aid; it’s a matter of sending a show of support for the world to see.
But due to the internal chaos and lack of a Speaker, the House may not be able to sign off on an aid package to Israel. This means President Biden may have to do an Israel aid package on his own, without Congress. This would only serve to make Biden look good, while making House Republicans look like inept idiots.
So thanks, Matt Gaetz, for putting House Republicans in a position where they’re forced to hand political wins to President Biden by default. This Republican House was never going to be of any use anyway, so it might as well be exposed for it like this.
