Welcome to the ten day stretch that will decide the fate of America
On November 6th, Americans will go to the polls and decide whether to hand Congress to the Democrats and put Donald Trump on the road to his demise, or hand Congress back to the Republicans and hand Trump the ability to run roughshod over what’s left of the American experiment. There’s an argument to be made that what happens in the ten days between now and election day will end up being just as historically important.
It’s not just about Donald Trump. He’ll surely have some antics up his sleeve, because he always does. They probably won’t be particularly clever or effective, because he’s not that imaginative, but he’ll do just enough that his antics can’t be completely ignored. It’ll consist of racist lies, caravans, racist lies, empty promises, racist lies, incoherent rants, and racist lies. Prepare yourself for it.
It’s not just about the Republican vote suppression machine, either. That’s already in high gear. But we’ve learned from past races that it can only move the needle by a very small amount. And we’re already seeing the courts pushing back against these antics, forcing cheaters like Brian Kemp in Georgia to dial it back. As always, the key to stopping voter suppression is to catch them in the act beforehand. Stay vigilant.
You know what these next ten days are really all about? You. We already know what Trump and the GOP are going to do; they’re not dynamic thinkers. But what will you do? How much time will you spend phone banking, or text banking, or canvassing, or arranging rides to the polls for other voters, or trying to reach noncommittal voters on social media? You’re the secret weapon, whether you know it or not, because this is all about voter awareness and voter turnout. Do your part. These next ten days are crucial.
