Ted Lieu rips into Donald Trump
Donald Trump tried out a new threat last night during his embarrassing State of the Union address: he won’t allow any legislation of any kind to become law if the investigations into his criminal scandals continue. Predictably, this hollow threat went over like a lead balloon.
Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu, who has made a name for himself with his fearless and legally sharp takedowns of Donald Trump over the past two years, appeared on Hardball after the speech. As per usual, Lieu cut right to the chase, exposing Trump’s latest threat as a bizarre and hollow one:
“I think one of the most surprising things the President said was that somehow he was not going to work with us on legislation if we investigated him. That’s not how it works. Members of Congress took an oath to the Constitution. We have a duty to both pass legislation and to conduct oversight over the other two branches. We’re not going to abdicate one for the other.”
In other words, Donald Trump’s latest last ditch effort at fending off his criminal scandals has already fallen flat. House Democrats aren’t going to stop exposing his crimes in the name of ousting him. Robert Mueller isn’t going to stop ripping Trump and his criminal henchmen to pieces. SDNY is about to drop the legal hammer on Trump’s family. No one is impressed with his hollow threats; he should be begging for mercy.
