Ted Lieu throws down the impeachment gauntlet

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

We learned on Thursday night that Donald Trump instructed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress under oath about Trump Tower Moscow, and that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has the evidence to prove it. This has quickly sent the narrative about Trump’s ouster in a whole new direction.

Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu is a former prosecutor who sits on the House Judiciary Committee. This is crucial, because that’s the committee where the impeachment process begins. So when someone like Lieu begins talking openly about impeachment, it’s best to listen.

Here’s what Ted Lieu had to say: “Based on the Buzzfeed report and numerous other articles showing Donald Trump committed Obstruction of Justice and other possible felonies, it is time for the House Judiciary Committee to start holding hearings to establish a record of whether POTUS committed high crimes.”

High crimes is an obvious reference to the constitutional bar set for impeachment. Ted Lieu then went on to retweet someone who said that impeaching Donald Trump is a “necessary step.” Congressman Joaquin Castro, who sits on the powerful House Intelligence Committee, is calling for Trump to resign or be impeached.
