Ted Lieu reveals just how screwed Matt Gaetz is
There’s really never been a good time to be Matt Gaetz. That’s particularly true now that he’s under federal criminal investigation for heinous crimes, and his best bud just formalized a plea deal against him. It’s also not a good time to be a House Republican, given that they failed to take preemptive action against Gaetz, and now they’ll be stuck answering for him when they’re up for reelection in 2022.
Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu drove home the point with this tweet: “If Matt Gaetz had any agreement with Joel Greenberg for any of the crimes—even if Rep Gaetz didn’t commit the crimes himself—Gaetz would be guilty of conspiracy. Why are GOP Leader & House Republicans supporting Rep Gaetz to be on the House Judiciary Committee?”
This tweet explains just how screwed Matt Gaetz is thanks to this plea deal, and it explains just how screwed House Republicans are for having tepidly and stupidly stuck by Gaetz on his way down. Any action they take at this late date will be seen as too little, too late. House Democrats will be able to use this against every House Republican seeking reelection in a moderate district in the 2022 midterms.
