This just keeps getting uglier for Ted Cruz
Whatever Ted Cruz was thinking when he said he would dispute the Electoral College vote tally when Congress counted them on January 6, it didn’t go exactly the way he had hoped. Although it is not yet clear whether or not he was actively involved with the siege that interrupted the count that day and put the lives of his fellow senators in danger, things are looking less and less in his favor. Last week, GOP donors suspended their donations and a growing number of Texas newspapers called on Cruz’s resignation. Now, there’s footage of the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol claiming to have been invited by Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley and it’s gotten to the point where even Cruz’s fellow Republicans want him to be investigated.
On Sunday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) went on CNN saying that several of her fellow members of Congress to be investigated and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law if it turns out they were involved in any planning for the January 6 attacks that led to the deaths of five people. In the two weeks since these attacks unfolded, we’ve been getting videos and information suggesting that things were far more sinister than we imagined at first, and it’s getting more and more difficult for the GOP and their voters to act like this was simply a protest where things got out of hand.
Now there’s bipartisan support for an independent investigation into the incident, beyond what’s already being done by law enforcement as they continue to pick up more people involved in the riots. It’s a good chance that at least a few Republicans could be facing the end of their careers by the time this is over.
