Donald Trump’s tax returns

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Now that Donald Trump has lost, what happens with his tax returns? He’s already lost that case with the Supreme Court, but he’s been using technicalities to try to drag out the inevitable. But once he’s gone from office, his stall tactics will become moot.

More to the point, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has been single handedly defying the New York grand jury’s subpoena for Trump’s tax returns. The minute Trump is gone, so is Mnuchin, and the Treasury Department will presumably comply with the subpoena immediately. So Trump’s tax returns will be in the hands of a grand jury in short order.

Seeing Trump’s tax returns publicly will be another matter. We’d have wait for the grand jury to finish indicting Trump before it would publicly release the criminal portions of his tax returns as evidence in the indictment. However, the Treasury would also presumably give Trump’s tax returns to the House, which could then hold public hearings about them. One way or the other, Trump’s tax returns are coming. It’s just a matter of when.
