Talkin’ loud and sayin’ nothing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Listening to Donald Trump give a “speech” reminds me of an old James Brown song: “Talkin’ Loud and Sayin’ Nothing.” Yet, his handlers, still insist he’s going to win on “the issues.” Does anyone even know what his issues are? No, not his personal issues; we can clearly see those. What is his campaign message other than “she [Harris] will destroy America?” Harris has basically been ignoring Trump because she knows he’s talking a big game with nothing to back it up. He’s like a gnat at a picnic or that fly that got stuck in your house when someone opened the door-an annoyance.

One of Harris’ main and most powerful messages is “We are not going back.” Many of us lived through those dark ages, and every time Harris reminds us that Trump wants to take us back, I cringe. It’s not a line to draw attention; it is exactly what Trump wants. You can tell by the way he disrespects women and minorities. He wants Massa to have control again, but it’s not happening. Can he really take us back? He has done so already.

According to MSNBC, 46% of white women voted for Trump in 2016. The one big protection women had against government interference in their personal lives was Roe v. Wade. Trump successfully overturned that law by putting the right judges on the Supreme Court. As MSNBC points out, those women-especially those in red states-now have less rights than they did in 2016. Even seeing Kamala Harris running for the highest office in the land points to how far we have come as women and minorities. Yet, the women who support Donald Trump apparently don’t mind going back. Well, the rest of us do.

Even as Trump’s campaign team tells the world that Harris cannot win, we believe she can, and that’s why we’re supporting her. At least, that’s one reason we’re supporting her. The enthusiasm she has built is real, and it’s not going away anytime soon. When you watch the two candidates in action, you understand the enthusiasm. Trump acts like he’s some kind of rock star, signing hats for people and saying nothing of interest to anyone. Harris, on the other hand, has spoken on distinct policies and issues she would like to tackle as president, and they are issues most care about. That’s why the polls have gone crazy, and as Newsweek reported, Trump hasn’t had a win in a week. The four most recent polls all give the lead to Harris. Now, we know polls aren’t the gospel, but they certainly can mark trends. You can see it everywhere you look. She has built a coalition of Black, white, young, women, Latinos, and former Republicans. There’s no way she can’t win.
