Donald Trump swings and misses yet again

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The Omarosa-driven narrative about whether Donald Trump used the N-word on the set of the Apprentice became so dominant this week, and so dangerous to Trump, he had to pull out all the stops to change the conversation before it permanently settled in. So he finally went ahead and revoked John Brennan’s security clearance, using a memo that was dated three weeks earlier, thus proving that he’d been sitting on the memo for when he needed to create a distraction.

Here’s the crazy part: it worked, in the sense that Omarosa and the N-word tape largely disappeared from cable news chyrons and newspaper headlines. But it only worked for about forty-eight hours. Yesterday the mainstream media finally decided to acknowledge what Palmer Report figured out ten months ago, which is that White House Counsel Don McGahn has been working with Robert Mueller behind Donald Trump’s back all along.

Suddenly this story took over the news cycle, with “Don McGahn” becoming a top trending topic on Twitter, as everyone who’s not a Palmer Report reader was shocked to find out that one of Donald Trump’s own top people has long been selling him out from within the White House walls. So now we’ve back to another damaging story about Trump, in the sense that it makes him look really guilty: the top White House lawyer has been so worried that he might go down for Trump’s crimes, he’s turned over evidence that Trump is the real culprit.

Is this as damaging as the narrative about the N-word tape? Probably not. If you want to know how much harm that tape could cause Donald Trump, take a look at how quickly Papa John Schnatter, who had been saying and doing other racist things for years, got fired from his own company after he used the N-word on a conference call. But Trump wanted Brennan to be the story, to the point that he was willing to risk tacking on yet another criminal charge to his eventual indictment – and just two days later, the story has shifted to McGahn anyway. It’ll be back to Omarosa and Trump’s racism when she releases her next tape. Trump is swinging and missing. There’s too much coming at him now.
