Sure looks like criminal charges are coming in Michigan
Earlier this month the media obtained a recording of Donald Trump and RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel illegally trying to pressure Michigan officials into overthrowing the 2020 election results. At the time I said the question was why this was suddenly surfacing. Things like this don’t usually make their way to the media at random. Someone with knowledge or possession of the recording seemingly decided a few weeks ago that they wanted the media (and thus the public) to know about the recording. Again, why?
Was this a matter of prosecutors putting it out there in order to prepare the public for criminal charges against Trump world in Michigan? If so, was this the work of state or federal prosecutors? Or was this coming from a criminal target who was tipping off prosecutors about wanting a deal? We still don’t know those answers. But now another shoe has dropped.
CNN now says it has a recording of Kenneth Chesebro talking to Michigan prosecutors about the Trump world plot to use fake electors in Michigan and Wisconsin. Why does CNN suddenly have this recording? Who, among the very few people who would have had access to such a recording, would turn around and give it to the media – and why now?
What really stands out here is that Kenneth Chesebro has already cut a formal plea deal with Georgia prosecutors, and now appears to be helping Michigan prosecutors to bring charges as well. Michigan has already criminally charged its fake electors. But Chesebro’s involvement suggests that this is going higher.
In another odd twist, CNN is also reporting that while Chesebro reached out to Jack Smith to offer his cooperation several weeks ago, Chesebro still hasn’t heard back from Smith. Why would this be the case? There’s really no way to know. Jack Smith likes to play his cards close to the vest. Perhaps he’s still building a federal case in Michigan and isn’t yet at a point where he needs Chesebro’s cooperation.
But regardless of whatever Jack Smith is or isn’t doing in Michigan, it sure sounds like Michigan’s state level prosecutors are going to end up bringing more criminal charges. First there was the tape of Trump and McDaniel committing election crimes, and now there’s the tape of Chesebro cooperating with Michigan prosecutors. There has to be more to this story yet to come. Stay tuned.
