Stop falling for Mike Pence’s claim that he’s fighting against the DOJ subpoena
Last week the media reported that the DOJ had subpoenaed Mike Pence in the criminal case against Donald Trump. Now the media is reporting that Pence intends to use executive privilege to fight the subpoena. But here’s the thing: Pence himself is pretty obviously the media’s source for all of this, and Pence is a known liar with ulterior motives.
Think it through. Who else would be leaking that Pence was subpoenaed, and that he intends to fight it? Pence is obviously the sole source of this entire storyline. Pence has such a long track record of lying every time he opens his mouth, no one believes him when he says anything. But because the media is portraying this storyline as coming from some unbiased inside source who must therefore be correct, instead of just admitting that Pence is their source, many of you are just presuming that what’s being reported is true.
Think it through a little further. Mike Pence has already made clear that he intends to run for President in 2024. Does he have any chance of winning? No. But if he can keep his campaign alive all the way to Iowa before dropping out, he can parlay that into a highly lucrative book deal. And for Pence to make it that far, he needs Trump out of the way. So are we really supposed to believe that Pence is somehow trying to stop the DOJ from taking Trump down? COME ON!
It’s quite obvious that Mike Pence is leaking to the media that he intends to fight this subpoena because when Trump goes down, Pence doesn’t want Trump’s base to blame him for it. Pence is a known liar in general, and he has specific motivation to lie about fighting this subpoena. The media’s entire narrative about Pence fighting the subpoena is coming from Pence himself. This means that you, as a consumer of political news, should cross out this entire storyline and treat it as if it it’s not being reported and isn’t happening – because it’s not a real story.
But Pence and the media are counting on you buying into this bullshit narrative, without even scrutinizing it, simply because it’s outrage-inducing. You already hate Pence, for very good reason. Now the media is running headlines claiming that Pence is so villainous, he’s going to try to obstruct justice just to help save Trump. It’s an all-time villainous plotline for Pence! And since you already feel so much outrage toward him this latest narrative fits precisely with what you already think of him. And it lets you feel even more outrage toward this guy you despise! That’s the entire point. It’s why Pence and the media, each for their own ulterior motives, feel they can get you to swallow this bullshit narrative without questioning it.
Meanwhile back in the real world, Mike Pence has overwhelming motivation for helping the DOJ take Donald Trump down, even while creating a media narrative about him protecting Trump from the DOJ. If you want to be logical about it, you’d conclude that Pence is likely already cooperating and just doesn’t want the public to know it. If you want to be more cautious about it, you’d say that we can’t know anything for certain. But only a naive rube (or a fully blinded outrage addict) would give any credibility to Pence’s media leaks about how he’s supposedly trying to protect Trump from the DOJ. That doesn’t pass the laugh test. Not a by a million miles.
