Donald Trump’s stimulus grift

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Democrats and Republicans have finally reached a stimulus relief deal that includes $600 direct payments to most Americans. It should have been at least $1200. The deal sucks. But don’t go blaming the Democrats for it. The Republicans didn’t want to do a relief package at all. The Democrats somehow got them to cough up this much. It’s crap, but you’re on the wrong track entirely if you blame the Democrats or “Congress” for the Republicans’ evil agenda.

Here’s the kicker. Republicans obviously did not want to give a single penny in pandemic relief money to working class Americans. But Donald Trump has repeatedly tweeted that he was in support of direct payments. Why would he even bother? He gains nothing from it at this point – except he does.

Trump is still running a con on his gullible supporters, encouraging them to donate to his imaginary election legal defense fund, so he can pocket the money. Because a couple hundred million Americans are about to receive checks, a fraction of them are going to turn around and donate a portion of it back to Trump’s fake election fund. This is surely Trump’s thinking, because everything is a grift for him.

Meanwhile, if you’re dissatisfied with this relief package and you want a better one next month, it’s all the more reason to throw your weight behind the Democrats in the Georgia Senate runoffs in two weeks. If the Democrats take control of the Senate, the next relief package will be precisely what we all need it to be. For now, this is the most we could get out of the Republicans who are still holding the Senate hostage. You can donate to Ossoff and Warnock here.
