Steve Mnuchin just gave something away

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Last night Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose took a well deserved shot on Twitter at Donald Trump’s corrupt Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. When Mnuchin fired back at him on Twitter, it set off pure pandemonium. Of all the strange, bizarre, and unbelievable things that have happened in 2020, a public feud between Axl Rose and the Secretary of the Treasury just might top them.

The thing is, though, Steve Mnuchin gave something away in the process: he’s cracking. Moreover, he’s getting sloppy about it. If Donald Trump had gone off on Axl Rose, it wouldn’t have been surprising. Trump recklessly does that kind of thing all the time. But Mnuchin is a more reserved guy. He’s fairly active on Twitter, but nearly all of it is polished public relations. For him to go after Axl Rose like that was weird โ€“ and for him to flub it so badly suggests that he wasn’t in control of himself at the time.

Imagine you’re the highly polished Secretary of the Treasury, and you see the guy from Guns N’ Roses cursing you out on Twitter. Even if you want to respond, you’re going to think long and hard about whether you’re likely to be seen as the winner of a feud with the guy from Guns N’ Roses. Knowing you’re going to be looked at critically for this, you’re going to make darn sure you get it right โ€“ including making sure you don’t accidentally tweet the Liberian Flag at him instead of the American flag.

That is, unless you’re in such an uncharacteristic rage that you angrily post your response, Trump-style, without thinking about the consequences, and without bothering to even look over what you’ve typed. This all suggests that Steve Mnuchin is cracking under the pressure of it all. He’s the one who’s illegally sitting on Trump’s tax returns. If Trump loses the election, which looks more plausible by the day, whatever Mnuchin is hiding will come out. Mnuchin just gave away that he’s really feeling the heat.
