Steve King just unwittingly revealed how screwed Donald Trump is

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

House Republicans are throwing everything at the wall that they can think of today, no matter how nonsensical or deranged, in one last desperate attempt to convince Donald Trump that they did the best they could to try to stop him from being impeached. They know they can’t stop it, but they’re hoping Trump won’t take out his frustrations on them once impeachment is finalized.

Thus far today we’ve seen House Republicans compare Donald Trump to Jesus Christ, not once, but twice. We’ve seen House Republicans compare impeachment to Pearl Harbor. But then they decided to be truly offensive by letting Steve King speak. This is the guy who’s so openly racist, even the other House Republicans are usually afraid to stand too close to him these days.

Here’s what stands out as remarkable. The House Republican leadership has gone as far as stripping white supremacist Steve King of all his committee positions, because they don’t want him speaking for the entire caucus. They’re afraid that his in-your-face racism will cause problems for their usual ever-so-slightly-veiled racism. House Republicans think they could lose votes by letting Steve King speak for them in committee hearings.

But today, when the agenda is not about what House Republicans think is best for their party, and it’s instead about giving Trump whatever they think he wants to hear, suddenly they’ve got Steve King front and center. Trump’s own allies know that he’s more interested in hearing a psychotic defense from a pariah like King, than he is in speeches that might actually help him. It’s the latest reminder of just how far removed Trump is from reality – and how little chance he has at surviving this.
