Steve Bannon just lost in court AGAIN

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When the trial judge rejected all of Steve Bannon’s major pretrial motions earlier this week, it wasn’t out of luck or happenstance. It was because the DOJ took the time to do its homework, and had a prompt and solid response to each of Bannon’s desperate motions.

After the DOJ convinced the judge not to grant Bannon a delay in his trial, Bannon responded by asking the judge again last night to delay the trial. To the surprise of no one who’s been paying attention, the judge promptly rejected Bannon’s motion again today.

It serves as a timely reminder that people like Steve Bannon aren’t magicians with infinite magic powers. They have a certain amount of ability to dodge and stall in some situations – but those abilities always end up being finite. And once that stalling begins to fail, it tends to keep failing.

If Bannon had any sense, he’d cut a cooperation deal against Donald Trump with the DOJ right now, before he’s convicted, while he still has more leverage. Any cooperation deal he negotiates after his conviction will come with less leniency, because he’ll have less leverage at that point. But Bannon seems incapable of taking an honest approach to anything, and if he’d rather simply rot in prison than do what’s good for him, so be it.
