Steve Bannon is now panicking on the eve of his criminal trial

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

On Monday, the judge in Steve Bannon’s criminal contempt case threw out every possible defense strategy that Bannon had submitted, and refused to delay the start of Bannon’s trial. The judge came down so thoroughly against Bannon, he did everything but laugh Bannon out of the courtroom.

Now, two days later, Bannon is once again asking the judge to delay the start of the trial, based on the fact that Bannon keeps getting mentioned in January 6th public hearings. That’s right, just 48 hours after getting shot down, Bannon is making the same request of the same judge using the same rationale. What’s that they say about the definition of insanity and doing the same thing over and over again?

With Steve Bannon we suspect it’s less about insanity and more about pure panicked desperation. The guy is now five days away from the start of his trial on a pair of criminal contempt charges for which he has literally no defense, and if he’s convicted, he’s going to prison. If Bannon is that afraid of doing time, he should cut a legitimate cooperation deal against Donald Trump while he can still get significant leniency. After Bannon is convicted, he’ll have less leverage when it comes to negotiating a lenient cooperation deal.
